2021 annual conference cancelled.

It is with regret that the decision has been made to cancel the 2021 OHNNG conference.

The committee met via zoom in the beginning of June – as venue deposits were falling due.

The state representatives and executive committee unanimously agreed that financially a national meeting was a significant risk.  At the time Victoria was still in lock down and the possibility of that happening again and affecting conference delegates, was concerning. Committee members with children did not want to travel to Melbourne with the possibility of having to quarantine on return to their home state.  We felt that perhaps many members may hold similar concerns.

At the beginning of the year, I felt confident that the vaccine roll out would render state lock downs a thing of the past.  Unfortunately, the roll out has been quite slow and until such time as the majority of Australians have been vaccinated, interstate travel come with significant risk.

A virtual meeting was considered, however, again we felt that registration numbers would be minimal and the costs high.  Foremost in my mind is making responsible financial decisions as the overseer of the group’s finances, which ultimately belong to the members.

Instead of the national meeting the state representative committed to hosting state based educational events during this year, requiring members to only travel within their state.  Members will be notified when these event dates and venue details are confirmed.

The 2022 conference planning (Adelaide 10-12th June) is well underway and we are planning for an enthusiastic and large audience. The conference leans up against a public holiday on Monday the 13th June (all states except Qld and WA) which potentially leaves a little more time to enjoy the city and surrounds of Adelaide.

I look forward to seeing you in your home state as the state based events occur, or, in Adelaide, in 2022.
